We have hosted five United States Presidents, dignitaries, and cultural icons, including Albert Einstein. Since it first opened its doors to a lobby so beautiful it stunned not only Newark but the nation, the Robert Treat Hotel has held as its calling card a style and draw that remains unparalleled in the city.

In Good Company

Starting with the stay of one of America’s most consequential presidents, Woodrow Wilson, the Robert Treat Hotel became the hotel of choice in Newark for many of history’s most notable names. This legacy of luxury and pattern of notable guests became the Robert Treat Hotel’s calling card. In 1980, it became the first hotel in Newark listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

A New Beginning

Tragically, the building’s original famous lobby was destroyed in a fire. It wasn’t until 1987, when the Robert Treat Hotel was purchased by Berger Organization, that the lobby was refurbished and restored to its captivating glory.

Now more than 100 years into its life, the Robert Treat Hotel continues to offer a level of timeless luxury and hospitality to the city of Newark and all who pass through. A new wing of 165 rooms and new a ballroom is added

Martin Luther King Jr. attends banquet in Tri-State ballroom in his honor

1980

The Hotel becomes the first in New Jersey to be listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places
